Red lips and leopard print

Red lips and leopard print...

With the gloomy weather surely there is light at the end of the tunnel? or in my case, my make-up bag?!  Dark days call for a bright pop of colour so I opted for my trusty MAC lip pencil in High energy today and wrapped up in my Topshop leopard print coat.  If you are going to be wearing a red lip, make sure you get rid of any redness first in your face, (especially around your mouth, nose and chin.)  I must admit, I am more of a nude lippie girl, but I so needed a colour boost, and I felt really nice with a bright lip, plus it stayed on such a long time, (I prepped my lips first with a bit of vaseline, then rolled over a cotton bud to remove any bits that the lipstick may stick to.)  Then applied a bit of carmex lip balm then applied the lip pencil all over the lips, then traced the pencil along the lip line, smiling, but it wasnt prestine.

I used minimal makeup for the rest of my face - I prepped with Emma Hardie moisturiser, then applied Bobbi Brown serum foundation and corrector, I then groomed my brows with an Anastasia Beverley Hills brow pencil, a bit of Louise Young eyeshadow in Chic and Max Factor 2000 calorie mascara.  I then used Cover FX bronzer and then Bobbi Brown shimmer brick and that was it.  A look really out of my comfort zone but perfect for an Autumn gloomy day! (coat from Topshop by the way.)

Review for Tina Brocklebank Make-up artist

My make-up columns and make-up lessons...

I am very lucky to be a columnist for The Lincoln Journal and The Lincolnshire Journal magazines, (I also write columns for The Wedding Journal too.)

My most recent column in The Wedding Journal is talking about why you should book a Pro make-up artist on your wedding day.  Here's a snippet, "Weddings are a time of celebration and happiness and I am always honoured to be a part of someones' special day.  When choosing a Make-up artist, you can't beat a first hand recommendation or review.  Ask around and check out their social media accounts and portfolio too.  See how long they have been in the industry for, (I sang in the bathroom last night, it doesn't make me a singer, if you know what I mean.)  Getting your make-up applied professionally is a luxury, but with all things luxury there is a cost associated with it.  Yes, you could do your make-up yourself or get your friend, but would it look the same? and do you need that stress on your wedding day?  Price wise, a Pro make-up artist will charge what they are worth.  You are not just paying for their expertise, experience or application, but upkeep of their kit, time, travel, cleaning and sanitising their kit, answering e-mails, etc, etc.  Make-up artists work so hard, in and out of hours.  Basically, you do get what you pay for.  When you have chosen your make-up artist, book them...fast! A reputable make-up artist has a packed schedule and while that says great things about them and their work, it means you have to get a contract in place, (a professional will already have this in place as standard.)  I don't recommend not having a trial before the wedding day, and actually, I don't take Brides on without this anyway, it is far too important.  Not only should the makeup artist be amazing at make-up but you need someone who is going to be reliable, professional, keep you calm and also works well under pressure, you also need to have a good rapport with them.  I have lost count of the number of times I have given reassuring hugs, passed a tissue and wiped tears, or poured a glass of champers to a nervous Bride...but its all part of the job.  Make sure you wear waterproof products for obvious reasons! You don't want to have panda eyes or streaks ruining your look!  Lastly, embrace the whole experience of having a professional apply your make-up for you.  It is a most enjoyable experience and one which you will remember for the rest of your life."

My October Lincolnshire Journal "Tina Brocklebank Make-up artist knows good make-up..." talks about dark under eye circles, (something which I have myself.)  Products I recommend are a good eye cream, Bobbi Brown corrector and concealer, Laura Mercier secret camouflage palette, Louise Young cosmetics, Barry M concealers, Amazing Cosmetics concealers, YSL Touche Eclat, a Beauty Blender, Chanel powder, (if required) and Lancome Effacernes concealer.

There is no denying, that make-up can be our best friend, if applied correctly and use the correct products.  Make-up can enhance us and also play down the areas that we are not so comfortable with.  Don't be afraid of experimenting a little and investing in yourself.  Make-up is such a useful tool and a skill for life!  (I have been working with lots of lovely ladies recently, on make-up lessons, all ages.)  It always brings me such pleasure and is a real buzz when I make that person happy, just by applying a little bit of make-up, it can really boost someones' confidence and well being.  Make-up, to me, is so much more than applying it, it has such a positive effect on a person.  It really can make all the difference to your day.  Heres a few examples of some make-up lessons and reviews too...

Emma Hardie Amazing Face

Emma Hardie skincare products

I was kindly sent some products to try from the Emma Hardie skincare range.  I have had little samples from this range so was really keen to try more, as I was impressed.

The packaging is looks stylish.  I was sent the Mooring Cleansing balm with a cleansing cloth in together with  a Protect and Prime SPF 30 moisturiser.

The cleansing balm comes in a big tub and you have to mix a few drops of the balm with warm water, apply to the face and massage in.  You then remove with the soaked cloth, (this is to exfoliate too, using the muslin side.)  I absolutely love the smell of the balm which has notes of citrus, rose and jasmine.

You can even use this as a overnight facial treatment, (great for mature skins.)  It soothes and minimises the appearance of open pores.

This is a great cleanser and my skin seems to love it, (after a week.)  It is very hydrating and I really look forward to using it!  The only thing I would say is, don't get this in your eyes, but there is a warning about it on the box!

The moisturiser was actually what I tried as a little sample so I knew what to expect.  It comes in a 50 ml pump bottle, so easy to dispense, not messy and saves you wasting the product.

I love this product as it is not too oily, its light weight, and leaves a lovely glow to the skin.  I love the fact that its got a SPF 30 in too.

I have been taking notes from the respected Caroline Hirons blog, (she a much respected skincare expert), and I have been now routinely looking at ingredients in the products.  I know now not to choose anything with mineral oil in, as apparently it is a "red flag" in 99% of situations.  I also know that there are a lot of problems now with palm oil, (with it being sustainable.)  It seems a lot of the ingredients in the two products are derived naturally, (however, I am not an expert), but looking at them it seems that way. I love this range and I would have no hesitation to recommend it highly if you are looking for a higher end skincare range, but not too pricey.

Bridal-Photography-Shoot-Sheffield

Bridal Musings and Claire Pettibone...

As I have mentioned recently, I had the pleasure of working with such great professionals on an amazing shoot in Sheffield.  Photography was by the very talented and lovely Jess Petrie, who's work I love and admire.  Nina Marika was the extremely talented stylist, hair by Berquet Laurent of Hair Laundry, Cakes and head pieces - Amy Swann cakes, florals - Swallows and Damsons, make-up by me.  The model was the beautiful Urte.  The dresses were from the amazing couture designer Claire Pettibone at The White Room Bridal.

I wanted to create a lovely pretty, peachy, dewy, natural, fresh look with a graphite, grey defined eye.  I used my trusty Bobbi Brown products and also a bit of MAC strobe cream.  Very minimal but very modern and beautiful.  Here are a few pics -

The shoot was a inspired by Conceptual elegance and oozed soft and delicate styling with a rough around the edges backdrop.

Click on this link to read more about the shoot - http://goo.gl/VRT4Sv (I hope you can see it?!)

The shoot harnessed the talents of some of the North of England's most exciting wedding vendors and I was extremely honoured to be a part of it.  I shall be writing more about the makeup I used soon for this.

Tinas studio (false eyelashes and make-up)

A quick update!...

I haven't been able to update my blog for a while, as I have been so busy with bookings.  I am going to do a more in-depth blog as soon as I can!

Since my last blog I have been working flat out with make-up lessons, weddings, shoots and make-up trials.  I have also taken on lots of bookings for 2016 and 2017 too, (try not to be too late booking, as I have had to turn away lots of disappointed ladies just recently...it breaks my heart to do that! I try and help as many people as I can.)

I had the pleasure of working on a shoot recently in Sheffield with the amazing Jess Petrie photographer and lots of other talented individuals, (I can't say too much about this, but its quite exciting!) We used some beautiful dresses by Claire Pettibone, (from The White room Bridal) and Nina Marika was the amazing stylist for the day.

I wanted to create a soft, glowy, natural make-up - inspired by the "strobing" trend, (which is something I have been doing for years, its really highlighting, and a lot more natural than contouring, which I have never been a fan of anyway...)

I have also updated my kit, yet again, to include lots more false eyelashes, as these are something I offer as standard now - I simply don't want to compromise and not make the best of my clients features - I feel false eyelashes always enhance and don't have to look..well...false!  I have also bought lots of new Bobbi Brown make-up, I love her sparkle eyeshadows...(aswell as all of her other products...)

I have also entered The Wedding Industry awards - I haven't really been interested in entering competitions, but lots of people have told me to just show off my work and not be afraid of entering it, so that is what I have done! I am so proud of my work to date and really wanted to prove to myself of how far I have actually come! The logos/links will be added soon (although you do need to have been a Bride of mine from the 1st of November 2014 - 23rd November 2015.)  Thank-you x

Knowsley Hall, Liverpool

Tina Brocklebank Make-up artist - wedding make-up season!

Well, since my last blog I have been flat out!  Since the body painting shoot its been make-up lesson after make-up lesson and lots of bridal make-up trials and then weddings every weekend...I need a make-over myself!

Saying that, I am really happy at the moment, as I am lucky working with such great people and getting to see such beautiful venues.  I was lucky to work at the stunning Knowsley Hall in Liverpool recently, (Gary Barlow had turned up the night before to sing to the very surprised Bride!)  and I really enjoyed looking around this opulent stately home.

I have been so busy, and I will post a few of my make-overs below, however, I will try and do a more detailed blog soon! Thanks for reading x

Body painting by Tina Brocklebank Make-up artist - Stroke UK

I was approached by the charity Stroke UK to do a body painting for them for #MayMayPurple campaign.  I jumped at the chance as I love body painting and had been yearning to do another one, as I hadn't done one for years.   Obviously, the theme was purple, so I know I had to incorporate that into the design.  I didn't just want to paint anything basic, like a t-shirt with the logo on, I wanted to go all out and do something glamorous, especially as Siana Hemmings, (Miss Lincolnshire), had agreed to be our model.

Stroke UK supports survivors to make their best possible recovery, as they come to terms with life after stroke.  There are 1.2 million stroke survivors in the U.K.  (The Stroke helpline - 0303 303 3100, www.stroke.org.uk)

Aaron Cheeseman, (Ched53), also agreed to be our photographer - I had admired his work and was chuffed that he wanted to help out too for this great cause.  I also contacted Healing Manor and they agreed that we could do the shoot at their beautiful venue, in my favourite room - the bridal suite.  Rachel Courtney from Cherry Blossom hair boutique also agreed to be the hairdresser for this, so we were all organised.

I started body painting at around 9 am that day, first sketching out the design and then colouring with the purple.  I also had to use a black shade to give the purple depth.  I finished with neatening the lines with pencils.  I used MAC chromacakes and Make-up Forever products, bought from Guru Make-up Emporium in London, one of my favourite make-up shops.  I had also bought a purple Face lace mask, as I knew I wouldn't have much time to be able to do Siana's face make-up, and I wanted to concentrate more on the body painting.

The whole body painting took me around 7 hours to complete and I also had bought some lovely purple sequins to compliment the design.  I think you will agree, the image came out beautifully.  I am really proud of this, especially as my Nanna was victim to many strokes, and passed away when I was about 13 years old.

2016/17 bookings.

Well, here we are already in May! I've been busy doing a lot of make-up trials and lessons recently.  I've also been busy preparing for a very special shoot, which I will go into more detail about soon.

Wedding season is in full flow and I am just about fully booked up for this year, (weekends), apart from the odd few, but I could probably use those for the rest!   2016 and 2017 are filling up very fast too.

I've been loving writing my columns for The Lincolnshire Journal and The Lincoln Journal, I do love writing -  I think I may have found another avenue to vent my make-up obsession

I have received some more wonderful feedback recently, I also receive lots of thank-you cards - I keep them all and display them in my studio.

As mentioned, I have been busy preparing for a very special shoot.  I was contacted by Stroke UK about doing a body painting for them, I have completed it this week.  This was for #MakeMayPurple so I had to think of a beautiful, purple design to come up with.  I used MAC and Make-up Forever to achieve it.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jo Banks, (an amazing local body painter), and Julia Townend, (who was one of my teachers at The London College of Fashion, and who advised me prior to me doing this body painting...oh, and thanks to Pixiwoo for reminding me to contact Julia in the first place!)   Julia herself is a brilliant body painter and hair/make-up artist, and has her own beautiful line of make-up products - JT Make-up studio, check out her website - www.jtmakeup.co.uk

I got to work with some amazing, local, professionals - Aaron Cheeseman, (Ched 53 photographer) whose work I really admire and love, Siana Hemmings - who is Miss Lincolnshire and has the most amazing body to paint!  Rachel Louise Courtney hairdresser from Cherry Blossom hair boutique.  Also, Healing Manor were extremely kind and supportive, by letting us use their beautiful venue to shoot in.  I started the body painting at 9.30 am and finished it around 4 pm (ish), I was shattered, but it was well worth it, and can't wait to share the final photo with you soon.  I wanted to get involved as my Nanna had strokes.  Here is my design for it...

I have also been busy with make-up lessons and have worked with a lot of people who have had bad experiences with makeup or other people applying it badly for them.  This does tend to frighten people and give make-up a bit of a bad name, but once I have helped them, they are soon reassured.

Thank-you for reading my blog xxx
