I have been a huge fan of Bobbi Brown for over 17 years and fell in love with the brand. I used to work for Bobbi in Nottingham, (I was trained by them in London too.) I am a little obsessed! I loved getting a tweet from Bobbi herself....
Well, 2014 is drawing to an end, and what a year it has been...where has it gone?! I have met some wonderful people this past year and had the pleasure of working with some great people too.
I am really looking forward to relaxing over Christmas with my family...and taking time out to try out some new make-up of course!
Next year looks to be another very busy one for me, there's very limited availability now, with bookings being taken for 2016 too already. I do work nationwide so I have taken on work in Bedfordshire, Selby and Hampshire so far for next year - I love seeing all the different locations people choose for their weddings.
I am going to be introducing lots of new make-up lessons so I aim to concentrate on that next year, there are also some other new exciting projects in the pipe-line. I have also been asked to write a column for the Lincoln Journal alongside my column in the Lincolnshire Journal, which I love doing, so please get in touch if there is anything you would like me to cover - tina@tinabrocklebank.co.uk
I would like to wish my customers and friends a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year - here's to a happy and healthy and 2015! xxx
Recently I have had the pleasure of working with wonderful creative people. I worked with the amazing Joanna Chafer of Joanna-Leigh Couture in Brigg, and my goodness, her designs are second to none and the attention to detail is astonishing!
Siana Hemmings was our beautiful model for the day, (Miss Lincolnshire) and I think you will agree, she looks amazing and is such a professional lady to work with, (and very funny too!)
Our inspiration was of course Joannas' beautiful gowns and when we saw a Victorian design, we all agreed this was the way forward for us to go, therefore, we incorporated a real Victorian, sophisticated feel to our shoot.
Regarding make-up - I wanted to show a nod to this era but still making the make-up look timelessly elegant. The fashion was to have a very pale face, but I just turned it up a notch and warmed up the skin. To prep the skin I used This works in transit camera close-up moisturiser and primer to create a beautiful base to work on. I then used Bobbi Brown Long-wear even finish foundation, a touch of corrector and concealer where needed and finished with Bobbi Brown sheer finish loose powder. For eyes, I used Bobbi Brown brow palette in the shade Saddle. On the whole eye area I used Long-wear cream eyeshadow in Ballet pink and then Illamasqua cream pigments in Androgen, Emerge and Delerium, taking the lilac-y shade underneath the eyes and blending very well. The whole face had to be powdered very well to create a lovely matte effect. I then used Bobbi Brown cream eyeshadow in Bone as a highlighter. To define the lashline, I used Black track gel liner by MAC and then applied some of their false lash mascara. I then added some beautiful false lashes from Red cherry which had to be wispy and beautiful.
For cheeks - I contoured slightly with a brown eyeshadow and then added a bright pop of blush, only on the apples of the cheeks to create a Victorian feel to it, I used Peony blush by Bobbi Brown and blended well with a Real Techniques blusher brush, (I love these brushes by the way, they are lovely to work with.)
For lips, I mixed my own colour to reflect the gorgeous shades that Jo and Sophie had created in their bouquets, which were a stunning range of reds, crimsons and burgundys. Firstly, I applied a lip pencil by Bobbi Brown in Sangria and then mixed 2 lip colours from my Bobbi Brown pro lip palette in Chocolate and Black berry. I then applied a Bobbi Brown crystal lip gloss, which has gold flecks in it.
We all had such a fantastic day. Tracy Conway-Smith took the photographs and they look amazing so far, so I can't wait to see the rest! The flowers were designed and made by Sophie and Jo at The Wedding and Flower Boutique, which were so creative and just beautiful! Hair was done by the wonderful Claire Snowden hairdresser.
Watch this space for more photos from our beautiful Bridal couture shoot!
Just to remind you, I am nearly booked up for next year now and taking bookings for 2016, so please get in touch to check availability. Tina x
I love writing, it enables me to talk about my make-up, (I can talk forever about this subject!). So I am so grateful that Laura, (the Editor) allows me artistic license over my column.
In my August column I talk about one of the Summer catwalk trends - "Barefaced beauty." How scary does that sound?! But why are we so insecure about our looks these days?
I have included some photos of my beautiful Mum. One when she was younger and one taken on Mothers' day this year - she is still as glamorous now! She has been my main inspiration in making the best of myself and indeed, other people. I love being able to make someone look better...therefore, feel better. I get such a buzz out of it. There is nothing like someone looking in the mirror after I have applied their make-up, (after they have pulled themselves down!), to then look at themselves and say, "Oh wow...I look amazing! I feel fantastic!!"...I have had ladies hug me...cry even! (tears of joy obviously!)
Many ladies feel like this, and they are not on their own. I can totally relate. But make-up is such a powerful tool to a woman, and to learn how to apply it is a life skill. Once you know what to use, with the correct products and tools you are well away...it becomes an addiction almost, (a healthy one I feel.)
I have had ladies actually say they feel like skipping home, they feel so great after having their make-up applied. I always recommend the use of false lashes, they have such bad press though. I do find myself repeating myself all the time. False lashes are there to enhance what you have, and if chosen wisely then they will enhance and define your eyes to perfection. My Mum swears by them for a special occasion.
I guess we just have to do what feels right for us, whether we wear make-up or not. As long as we feel good in ourselves, that is what it is all about isn't it?...
Wedding season is in full flow and I have been so busy with bridal/wedding make-up trials and make-up lessons. I often get asked to do make-up lessons for ladies that are getting married abroad, I have done quite a few of these just lately, so I have updated my make-up lesson package accordingly.
I suppose it all started off when Kate Middleton got married and surprised everyone by not having a make-up artist, as she did her own make-up on her wedding day, (Hannah Martin of Bobbi Brown was there on hand to help.)
I now offer Luxury bridal make-up lessons at my Lincolnshire-based make-up studio. These can be catered for your requirements, however, the most popular recently has been a 2 hour lesson at £155.00, (this includes one set of false lashes.) Prior to meeting you I will send you a questionnaire and this will enable me to cater the lesson for you and for me to get a feel of what look you would like on your wedding day. It is a good idea if you bring your own skincare and make-up bag with you, as hopefully you will have some suitable products in there already, without you having to purchase lots of new ones for your wedding day, (I will provide all of the make-up used on the make-up lesson.) The first hour will be spent discussing your needs and I will demonstrate a natural bridal make-up and then I will create a more dramatic, evening version so you can compare the two looks, (often the more dramatic version is best, especially for bridal/wedding photographs.)
It is a good idea if you turn up to the lesson with your normal make-up on as you would normally do it, then I will take a photograph of you prior to removing your make-up. I will then take another photo and then again at the end of the make-up lesson. Included in the make-up lesson is skincare advice, bespoke bridal looks designed just for you, an application sheet, (e-mailed to you after the session) and a personalised face chart and product list. You can then go online and purchase any necessary items ready for your big day. I am also there after your lesson for any further guidance/support you may require.
Please contact me if you would like to book or for further information.
I recently had the pleasure of working at the stunning Stoke Rochford hall in Grantham for a wedding. I love travelling and working as a make-up artist. Not only do I get to see lots of beautiful venues but I get to work with such lovely people too. I always love receiving my thank-you letters afterwards!
The brief given for this wedding was glamorous, so I knew I could really go for it with the make-up. Bridy wanted "Hollywood inspired glamour" so I went for a clean eye make-up, black liner with lashes and red lips, she looked amazing!
Then for her daughter, (who was Bridesmaid), we went for smokey, sparkly eyes with false lashes and nude lips, she looked beautiful. I used mainly Bobbi Brown but I also used Mac false lashes with Make-up Forever diamond powder, which looks so beautiful and glamorous.
Wedding season is still in full swing with lots of bookings being taken still for next year with limited availability, so please get in touch if you wanted to book.
