Maggie Hunt brushes

Its all go at the mo!...

I had the opportunity recently to be asked to be involved working on the Victoria Secrets show in London! I had 2 emails from Milan, but sadly it wasn't to be! ...Next time perhaps?! One of my lovely friends who I used to go to the London College of Fashion with, put my name forward so I would work in his make-up team...neither of us were put through though but it was an honour to be considered anyway!

I have been so busy lately with bookings and enquiries.  I have also been busy with a new make-up workshop training venture.  I have done this kind of thing before a couple of years ago for a lady who had come from Suffolk, she had trained with Pixiwoo also, and was keen to update her skills further.

So, I had the pleasure of doing another make-up workshop recently for a lovely lady from Hampshire.  The day included demonstrating various looks and techniques, and what products I recommend, it was a lovely day and I aim to do more of these, (time permitting!)

I was also very lucky to win some amazing make-up brushes from the wonderful, Queen of make-up herself, Maggie Hunt, the brushes are so beautiful, and I love working with them!

I am also busy writing for Lincoln Journal and also Lincolnshire Journal magazine, and I really do enjoy writing.  My new column in the Lincoln Journal is "Look of the month" and I recently did a couple of make-up looks on a beautiful model called Lucy.

I have also got quite a few interesting projects lined up, with a trip to London on the cards, so watch this space! x

January make-up, etc...

I have been asked to write for The Lincoln Journal, so I am very happy to announce I shall be writing a regular monthly column for them, alongside my Lincolnshire Journal column, which will be totally different.  I will be doing a "Look of the month" feature in the Lincoln one and the Lincolnshire one will be focusing more on trends and what I have been up to, and what I recommend product wise.

I have been extremely busy so far this month booking in my clients for their make-up trials and also doing make-up lessons.  I have been busy replying to e-mails and enquiries too, but sadly, I haven't been able to oblige with most of the e-mails, as I have already been booked.  Please remember, if you want to book a reputable make-up artist, then allow at least 2 years to book them in for your wedding day! It may seem too far away to book but I have had to turn so many people away, and I hate not being able to help people!

I have also been busy reviewing some products from various brands and I will be blogging about these very soon, its always great to receive new products to try out.

I also announced the winner of  my Facebook competition, which was Jo Snook, and she won over £100 of make-up products! so keep your eyes peeled for further competitions!  I was lucky enough to win a competition myself by the way...I won some beautiful Maggie Hunt make-up brushes, I never usually win anything! so I was amazed! Maggie is a make-up legend and is such a lovely, kind lady too.  I am honoured to be in touch with her.

I am also planning a trip to London soon to visit lots of art galleries to inspire me so I am really excited about that, I also hope to meet up with lots of my friends who I went to The London College of Fashion with over 20 years ago!

I am also busy planning a day make-up workshop for a lady wanting to train in make-up, at the end of this month, so its all go!  She is coming from Basingstoke to train with me.

Thanks for reading my blog and please get in touch if you need any advice or help with anything make-up related!x

Bobbi Brown tweet!

Bobbi Brown tweet!

I have been a huge fan of Bobbi Brown for over 17 years and fell in love with the brand. I used to work for Bobbi in Nottingham, (I was trained by them in London too.)  I am a little obsessed! I loved getting a tweet from Bobbi herself....

A very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all!

Well, 2014 is drawing to an end, and what a year it has been...where has it gone?!  I have met some wonderful people this past year and had the pleasure of working with some great people too.

I am really looking forward to relaxing over Christmas with my family...and taking time out to try out some new make-up of course!

Next year looks to be another very busy one for me, there's very limited availability now, with bookings being taken for 2016 too already.   I do work nationwide so I have taken on work in Bedfordshire, Selby and Hampshire so far for next year - I love seeing all the different locations people choose for their weddings.

I am going to be introducing lots of new make-up lessons so I aim to concentrate on that next year, there are also some other new exciting projects in the pipe-line.  I have also been asked to write a column for the Lincoln Journal alongside my column in the Lincolnshire Journal, which I love doing, so please get in touch if there is anything you would like me to cover - tina@tinabrocklebank.co.uk

I would like to wish my customers and friends a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year - here's to a happy and healthy and 2015! xxx

Daniel Sandler cosmetics

Daniel Sandler cosmetics...

I had the pleasure of trying out some new make-up from celebrity make-up artist, Daniel Sandler recently.  I have admired Daniels' work and excellent cosmetic products for a while, so was chuffed to sample some of the following -

Watercolour blush in Flush - This is a beautiful product in a liquid form in a little bottle, you only need a tiny amount and you can either apply it with your finger or an angled brush, (Daniels watercolour brush is perfect.)  It is great if you prefer a dewy glow from your blush, and I personally prefer either a cream blush or a liquid one to be honest.  Not only are these easy to apply but they are waterproof! so stay on all day long and are so easy to blend, they look very natural too.  I highly recommend these.  There are also lots of other beautiful shades to choose from. (£15.50)

Sculpt and slim - contour kit (£24.50) - All of the packaging is very high end. This comes in a lovely handy little compact with a mirror.  The "shade" part is great to apply under cheekbones, around temple and jawline, infact anywhere where you want to decrease areas on your face, a perfect matt shade.  The lighter shade is to be used on the top of your cheekbones, cupids bow or anywhere else you want to highlight, like underneath your brows too perhaps, a beautiful product.

Radiant sheen, (£28) - This creates a lovely subtle sheen, to be used on top of your blush or gently apply on the top of your cheekbones to create a lovely glow.

Beyond sunset eyeshadow palette and Scandal at midnight eyeshadow palette - (£28) - Again, beautiful packaging and when you open to see the shades inside, wow! beautiful textures and shades so you can achieve many different effects and depths, these can be used wet or dry too.

Luxury lip gloss (£14.75)  and Super bare lip gloss (£10)- The luxury lip gloss comes with a handy little applicator to easy to apply, it smells "melony" and lasts a long time, it has a lovely sparkle to it too, (I chose Skinny dip.)  I also love the Super bare lip gloss and its very glossy, and gloopy so stays on a long time, (apply over a lip pencil too for added longevity.)  This is a perfect nude shade.

Gothic bridal beauty

Halloween/Gothic bride shoot

A very hectic time at the moment, as I am juggling with shoots and my wedding work, plus I have just been taken on with an agency in Birmingham, so its all go at the moment.  You will see below what I have been up to - a Halloween/Gothic bridal look, just for fun really.  I wanted to create something that looked a little haunting but still beautiful at the same time.  I blocked out Leannes eyebrows first with pritt stick! (yes Pritt stick, it is completely safe!)  I kept powdering and adding foundation until the brows were blocked out.  I then evened out Leannes skin with Bobbi Brown foundation stick and concealer and dusted over with a loose powder.  I wanted to create a really dramatic, dark eye so used Charcoal eyeshadow from Bobbi Brown and added a gel liner and some amazing false lashes from www.falseeyelashes.co.uk these were some Red cherry ones.  I then paled down the lip by using concealer and then contoured the cheeks with some Tom Ford cream, (shade and Illuminate.)  I also then added a dark lip to mix things up a bit.

Bioderma

Tina's top 10 make-up and skincare must-haves...(at the moment!)

1. I love using the Bioderma Sensibio H20 micelle solution, (£15.95). This is great for any skin type so I tend to use this a lot, plus my other fave Bobbi Brown cleansing oil. It is very mild and gentle, (I have been using this on myself too and my daughter, as we have been suffering with spot breakouts, so great for sensitivity too.) It is a cult product, loved by Professional make-up artists world-wide and models, and I can understand why now.

I have been using this for about 2 years now and right from day one I fell in love with the product and I am officially hooked! It is a "micellar lotion" this means it uses micelles which micro-emulsify any impurities whilst maintaining the skin balance. it also has a decongesting active ingredient. This requires no water to rinse, is hypoallergenic, fragrance and alcohol-free, so perfect too for cleaning eye make-up away.

I generally like to use damp cotton wool pads and superficial cleanse first and then do a deeper cleanse to ensure skin is thoroughly clean, prior to any further moisturiser/make-up.

I also think, as this isn't on the skin very long that is is a great price - I don't like spending too much money on cleanser but it does need to be effective and gentle, so this fits the bill perfectly.

2. Laura Mercier tinted moisturisers and concealers (£34), - I have fallen in love with these products only just recently, after a trip to Liverpool. They do such a great range of moisturisers, for all skins types. I specifically love the Illuminating tinted moisturiser as it is very sheer and natural, gives great moisturization, stays on all day and gives a lovely, natural glow, its so easy to use too. You just use a small amount and apply to your face, then blend in with your fingers. They have a SPF 20 in too. No wonder these have won awards, they truly are fantastic! I highly recommend the concealers too, I love using the creamier version on myself, as I have quite dark circles so I use secret concealer and then use a tiny amount of the secret camouflage palette where needed. Viola! 5 years younger! (Bobbi Brown concealers are my favourites too and I have them all in my kit too of course!)

3. Bobbi Brown skin foundation stick (£29) - As you may know, I am a huge Bobbi Brown fan as I used to work for her back in 1998! and I have used her products ever since. But, this product is fantastic for anyone. It is portable so great and easy for touch-ups, if required, during the day. To apply you can either just swipe where needed directly onto the face, or you can apply with your fingers. You can apply with a damp sponge and build the coverage to your liking. You can even use a brush if you prefer, but its so easy to apply, I just think if you use your fingers it couldn't get any easier than that to get even, beautiful looking skin very quickly! and because it comes in 24 different shades, right from very pale, (pink toned) to very dark, (Espresso), there is a shade for everyone, you don't have to blend these either if you find the correct shade. A must-have product to use on myself and in my make-up kit, (which I have the BBU palette which is brilliant too.)

4. Anastasia dipbrow pomade (£15) - I have been wondering what all the fuss was about so I decided to order myself some of this to try out. I am obsessed with eyebrows anyway and buying new products. I had been using the Anastasia brow wiz pencil but wanted to try something new and I love this range for eyebrow products. I used my Real techniques brow brush for this as its perfect for achieving an easily achieved, natural shape, although Anastasia do have their own brush too which is great. It has a gel-mousse texture, so all you need to do is apply it through brow hairs, in the direction of the hairs, shaping the brow as you go, lightly at first and then go over if required. I found this lasted all day as it is waterproof and smudge-resistant, plus it could double as an eyeliner too! Great natural shades too. I went for Soft brown. I will definitely be ordering more of this. I bought this from www.cultbeauty.co.uk

5. MAC pro-pencils (£15) - I love these pencils as they are lovely to work with as they are nice and soft so easy to use and to blend, if required. I love these for eyes and for the lips. They are long wearing and transfer proof so you don't have to worry about re-applying or it smudging everywhere. They add definition and have rich pigment in them, so the colour payoff is just right, no more having to retrace over what you have done to get the correct amount of colour on.

6. Sleek lip palettes - (£8.99) - I have loved this brand for a while now, as a lot of make-up artists had raved about it to me, however, I must say the lip palettes are great. They sell them in Tesco and online, so easily bought. The shades available vary from a natural palette, (which I love using on myself, in Ballet.) You can use one shade or you can mix the four shades and textures to customise your own. I find that if you use a lip pencil prior to any lip colour then it will stay on a lot longer. There are 4 textures that range from matte, satin to gloss and are beautiful to work with....(Bobbi Brown lip colours are amazing too 😉 )

7. Real Techniques make-up brushes by Samantha Chapman - I have been a huge fan of Sam ever since she started making YouTube tutorials with her sister, Nic, aka Pixiwoo about 6 years ago. Amazingly, talented, inspiring make-up artists. So when they designed and brought out their own make-up brushes then you know these are going to be a success and do the job right! and indeed they do... I even have my daughter, who is nearly 15, hooked on them! You can buy these individually or in core sets and are going down a storm! I love these as they make my job so much easier. They make blending any product so easy. They are handcut, cruelty-free and have taklon bristles. I always recommend these to my clients too.

8. Max Factor 2000 calorie mascara, (£6.99) - Time and time again I come back to using this mascara and for that price you just cant grumble about it! I do sometimes use this in my makeup kit, in the waterproof version. I love it as it instantly makes any lashes look longer and thicker without clumps. Always in black too as it adds more definition. I also like to use MAC mascaras. Always ensure whilst applying your mascara to apply right to the roots of your lashes, and zig-zag through the lashes, to ensure even coverage of each lash.

9. Revlon photo ready cream blush, (£7.99) - I love using cream blush as it looks more natural I think, as it has a lovely dewy look to it once applied. Use your finger to dot a little bit on the apples of your cheeks and then blend up to your hairline. These products are buildable and very silky to work with, very lightweight too. Pinched is my fave. I also love the Bobbi Brown Pot rouge and use these all of the time - I love Powder pink and Calypso coral. You can set these if desired with the same shade in a powder blush, but I often just swipe a little Bobbi Brown shimmer brick over the cheekbones, to compliment the glow...(By the way, I make no apology for the amount of times I talk about Bobbi Brown!!)

pot rouge

10. False eyelashes - Where do I start? I am obsessed with these too and I always recommend these to my clients as they add so much more to the look, whether you like a natural look or a more dramatic look. I always say, "Its not a bad thing to have longer, thicker lashes is it?!" 99.9% of people love them once they try them. They are a lot kinder to your own lashes than individual false lashes, (I am not a fan I am afraid). They also look a lot more natural too and wont damage your own lashes. I love using lashes from MAC, Shu Uemura, Eylure, Red Cherry and Velour, although there are lots of others too! Always use a pencil or liner prior to applying them and then neaten up the line after application. I always use DUO lash adhesive as it is the best too.

Lisa Eldridge tweet

Lisa Eldridge tweet, The Journal magazine, etc, etc...

I was very chuffed recently to get a tweet from the lovely Lisa Eldridge, (see photo below) - she is one of my favourite Make-up artists and I love watching her make-up tutorials as she is very talented and extremely knowledgeable in all things make-up.  Her work has inspired me no end, so it is great when one of your idols acknowledges your work, although she has tweeted me previously,  I think its so great when someone as famous and busy as her takes the time out to respond!  (incidentally, it was in reponse to our Bridal couture shoot recently, which I am really proud of.)

I have also been busy with make-up lessons, trials and weddings still recently, also finding the time to write my column, "Tina Brocklebank knows good make-up" for The Journal magazine, which I love.  The October magazine is out now and includes some great local Lincolnshire columnists, so check it out!

I also went to Liverpool recently and enjoyed a lovely little shopping trip - I loved the whole shopping experience there and came back with some new Laura Mercier products, which I am over the moon with!  I bought the Illuminating tinted moisturiser, secret concealer and also the secret brightening powder - all of which are beautiful to work with and are great additions to my make-up kit! (see photo.)

I am still busy taking bookings, although next year is nearly fully booked now with limited availability for 2016 x

Make-up by Tina Brocklebank Make-up artist

Bridal Couture shoot, Make-up by Tina Brocklebank Make-up artist.

Recently I have had the pleasure of working with wonderful creative people.  I worked with the amazing Joanna Chafer of Joanna-Leigh Couture in Brigg, and my goodness, her designs are second to none and the attention to detail is astonishing!

Siana Hemmings was our beautiful model for the day, (Miss Lincolnshire) and I think you will agree, she looks amazing and is such a professional lady to work with, (and very funny too!)

Our inspiration was of course Joannas' beautiful gowns and when we saw a Victorian design, we all agreed this was the way forward for us to go, therefore, we incorporated a real Victorian, sophisticated feel to our shoot.

Regarding make-up - I wanted to show a nod to this era but still making the make-up look timelessly elegant.  The fashion was to have a very pale face, but I just turned it up a notch and warmed up the skin. To prep the skin I used This works in transit camera close-up moisturiser and primer to create a beautiful base to work on.  I then used Bobbi Brown Long-wear even finish foundation, a touch of corrector and concealer where needed and finished with Bobbi Brown sheer finish loose powder.  For eyes, I used Bobbi Brown brow palette in the shade Saddle.  On the whole eye area I used Long-wear cream eyeshadow in Ballet pink and then Illamasqua cream pigments in Androgen, Emerge and Delerium, taking the lilac-y shade underneath the eyes and blending very well.  The whole face had to be powdered very well to create a lovely matte effect.  I then used Bobbi Brown cream eyeshadow in Bone as a highlighter.  To define the lashline, I used Black track gel liner by MAC and then applied some of their false lash mascara.  I then added some beautiful false lashes from Red cherry which had to be wispy and beautiful.

For cheeks - I contoured slightly with a brown eyeshadow and then added a bright pop of blush, only on the apples of the cheeks to create a Victorian feel to it, I used Peony blush by Bobbi Brown and blended well with a Real Techniques blusher brush, (I love these brushes by the way, they are lovely to work with.)

For lips, I mixed my own colour to reflect the gorgeous shades that Jo and Sophie had created in their bouquets, which were a stunning range of reds, crimsons and burgundys.  Firstly, I applied a lip pencil by Bobbi Brown in Sangria and then mixed 2 lip colours from my Bobbi Brown pro lip palette in Chocolate and Black berry. I then applied a Bobbi Brown crystal lip gloss, which has gold flecks in it.

We all had such a fantastic day.  Tracy Conway-Smith took the photographs and they look amazing so far, so I can't wait to see the rest!  The flowers were designed and made by Sophie and Jo at The Wedding and Flower Boutique, which were so creative and just beautiful!  Hair was done by the wonderful Claire Snowden hairdresser.

Watch this space for more photos from our beautiful Bridal couture shoot!

Just to remind you, I am nearly booked up for next year now and taking bookings for 2016, so please get in touch to check availability.  Tina x
