Its not often I post photos of my daughter, but I just had to recently! It was her Prom day recently and I was just so proud of her, I wanted to show her off to the world!
It is a well-known fact, that at this age, teenagers can suffer with bad skin and a few spots here and there. Alisha has completely mastered the art of concealing her little blemishes. She has a great skincare routine, but despite all of this, she still gets spots. She also takes good care of what she eats and she drinks plenty of water.
At the moment she is trying out various creams from the Drs, but I know it is just her hormones, and the blemishes will go. However, in the meantime, we have a secret weapon...make-up!
Alisha has very pale skin, in fact even paler than porcelain, her shade is the Alabaster from the Bobbi Brown range. She also has very oily skin, typical of her age. She really has to look after her skin. She has been using Dermalogica, but to be honest, it still hasn't sorted it out.
Moisturiser wise - depending on her skin, she uses an oil-free one from Dermalogica or if her skin is dry, she uses Embryolisse Lait creme concentre.
For her prom, Alisha wanted her make-up very natural. Thank goodness she is not a heavy make-up kinda girl, (I've taught her well.) We went for a natural foundation, (of course!), she is not into the spray tan thing either, I always try and persuade girls to go for their own skin colour and embrace it, rather than go against it.
I used the Bobbi Brown foundation stick, which is a wonderful product, you can use it where needed or all over, (if needed.) You can use it with fingers, brush or a sponge. It is also very economical too and portable. It is an essential in my kit, thats for sure.
I used this with a damp Beauty Blender, taking real care over any little blemishes, (I had primed and moisturised with Bobbi Brown vitamin enriched face base.) I then corrected under her eyes a little and then pin point concealed with a bit of concealer, if needed, in the same shade. I then used a Vichy loose translucent powder to set her make-up and to stop shine, using a Maggie Hunt powder brush.
Alisha has great, feathery, natural brows, (I am jealous.) I filled them in with a very light eyeshadow and used Maybelline Brow drama to set and define the hairs.
Eyes - I used Bone cream eyeshadow all over the eye area and then Slate in the crease, outer corner of the lid and slightly under the eye. I defined with a Black ink gel liner from Bobbi Brown, (avoiding the inner corner, as Alisha hates the bit that sometimes prints underneath the eye.) I lightly powdered to avoid any smudges too, under the eye.
I applied some natural false eyelashes - Ardell 110 are perfect for this, and then used a Rodial black mascara, which is lovely and carbon black.
I used a creamy pot rouge blush on her cheeks, only a tad, and then highlighted with a MAC iridescent loose powder in Silver dusk, which is gorgeous. I also used a little on the lid and below the brow.
Lip wise - Alisha only really likes natural, nude shades. So I applied a lip pencil by Bobbi Brown in Bare all over the lips and then finished with a lip colour by Bobbi Brown in Uber beige.
I was so proud of her on her prom, (as I always am.) But to see her all dressed up in her amazing dress, (incidentally expertly made my lovely, hugely talented friend, Joanna Leigh Couture in Brigg), and her hair done to perfection, make-up classic and natural, nails painted natural - she looked so elegant and classic. Very proud indeed.
It was a perfect day and she had an amazing prom. (Thanks to VW weddings for the camper van hire too and The Wedding and Flower boutique for the gorgeous roses.)
I have finally got round to telling you what I have been up to since the launch of my new website. Basically, its been all go with weddings, shoots and make-up lessons. I have also been busy trying out some new make-up and I am going to be ordering lots of NARS soon as I am now a NARS Pro too, (I am already a Bobbi Brown and MAC Pro.)
With Summer here (ish),I always crave to let my skin breathe after Winter, and to wear less make-up on my skin. So I have opted for Sisley Self tanning, hydrating facial skincare. This has worked a treat, (and doesn't smell of biscuits!), it also means I can wear less foundation and it also hydrates my skin, as its always a bit on the dry side. I like to always take the time to cleanse well every night, (depending on my skin's needs, I like to use either Bioderma solution, No 7 creamy cleanser or Bobbi Brown cleansing oil/balm.) Once or twice a week I will use Alpha H Liquid gold, this acts to "polish" my skin, (however, I won't use this if I am using a facial tanner, perhaps once a week.) Moisturiser wise, I love my trusty Bobbi Brown moisturising balm, SPF 25. (Just to say, I don't believe in spending loads of money on cleansers, as they are not on your face very long! I prefer to spend on moisturisers instead.)
Make-up wise, with me wearing a facial tanner I can use less make-up, (I am usually a deathly shade of pale, with a few blemishes here and there, so I really have to try and even out my skin well cover those pesky spots...not to mention my under eye circles! Honestly, without make-up I look either ill or exhausted.)
I have been skipping on the foundation, (yippee!), and using Amazing cosmetics concealer, (well 2 - one on my skin and the lighter shade under my eyes.) I find this is a great concealer, as it doesn't crease and stays on, it also doesn't look shiny. If I am particularly dark under my eyes I will use a Bobbi Brown corrector first, then apply the lighter shade of concealer on the top.
Brows - I have been trying to go for the fuller brow look, as I was clever enough to tweeze my brows to an inch of their lives when I was at college, (damn you Kate Moss and your Biba look!) I use a small, slanted brush from Louise Young cosmetics and use an Anastasia Beverley Hills dip brow pomade, to create the illusion of hairs, I then go over with a Diego Dalla Palma brow gel, its amazing and has a dinky little brush too. I am not a fan of the "Insta brow" look, I mean, who has ombre brows?!! I like to keep make-up real and its all gone a bit too drag don't you agree?!
Eyeshadow wise - I have been using cream eyeshadows, and love the Bobbi Brown eyeshadow sticks. These are really quick and easy to blend, and usually I use just the one shade. Next I have been using a MAC Pro long wear pencil along my lash line, (tight lining too), and then creating a slight flick at the outer corners. I curl my lashes with Kevyn Aucoin eyelash curlers and then apply a Chanel mascara, (usually just to the top lashes, if I am not doing a smoky eye.) I let each coat dry before adding more. Lashes are my thing.
Next I apply a Bobbi Brown pot rouge, I love the shade Fresh melon as its really natural and also gives that lovely dewy look, I sometimes set this with a powder blush, (Apricot is nice, again by Bobbi Brown.) Highlighter next, I love the Bobbi Brown one in Pink glow, Daniel Sandler highlighter or a creamy highlighter from BECCA.
I very rarely use bronzer, but my favourite is either Cover FX or Bobbi Brown, and I'm not a fan of contouring, I prefer to highlight instead.
Lip wise, I always use a lip pencil first, I use a Nude pencil by Rodial, (all over my lips), then I love either Charlotte Tilbury "Bitch perfect" (love the name!), or Tom Ford "Blush Nude." Sometimes I keep it matte, but if I fancy a bit of a gloss then I use either a MAC dazzle glass gloss or Bobbi Brown in Buff.
Bookings wise - I have bookings every weekend now until October! (I am so rock and roll aren't I.) So, lots of early nights for me and early starts, but it goes with the job, and it doesn't bother me at all.
I also have been taking bookings up to 2018 now, next year is looking very busy too. I have taken some very long distance bookings on, its always nice to see different venues.
Please contact me to check availability at your earliest convenience, as I have had to turn away a lot of clients lately, as I am already fully booked.
Thanks for reading. I am aiming to blog at least once a month, so please bear with me. Thanks for all of your lovely feedback
(PS, please excuse the selfies, I am not a huge fan, but it does demonstrate what make-up I am using!)

I often get asked how long it takes me to do my make-up, (it depends on what time I have and what I need that day!)
Skin prep is very important to me, so making sure I use the right moisturiser for my skin, (depending on the time of year and my skins needs.) As I am getting older, my skin is more dry and I feel like I need a bit of a glow! so I always opt for something to give me that, I love my Bobbi Brown Moisturising balm, I then use a Hydrating eye cream.
I mix the balm with a Bobbi Brown CC cream, (as I feel the tinted balm is too heavy for me and the CC cream on its own isn't moisturising enough.) I then conceal any blemishes, (how is it I still get them at my age!?!) and uneven areas with a Bobbi Brown foundation stick.
I have under eye darkness, so I correct this with 2 shades of concealer, (the darkest first), by Amazing cosmetics, (believe me, I have tried most things and this product really works and does not budge/crease.) I then use a tiny amount of YSL touch eclait, if I am particularly dark.
Brows next, mine are a bit sparse, so I have to fill them in with an eyeshadow, I use Saddle by Bobbi Brown, (really lightly, as I am not a fan of the whole Instabrow thing, or Instamakeup thing for that matter!) I then define a little with a Pur Minerals brow pencil and set and enhance any brow hairs using Diego Dalla Palma brow gel.
I love using cream eyeshadows as they stay put and don't crease, again, Bobbi Brown are my fave. For this look I used Vanilla cream eyeshadow stick. I then used Taupe on the lid and below the eye. I then used my Charlotte Tilbury The Sophisticate eye palette, to create a smokey eye. I added a bit more definition with a gel liner, (this one is from BECCA.) I then used my Chanel mascara, top and bottom.
Cheeks next - I love my Bobbi Brown pot rouge at the moment in Fresh melon, very natural. Then a sweep of my Daniel Sandler Radiant sheen on my cheekbones.
Lips to finish - I used Rodial lip pencil in Nude and then finished with my Charlotte Tilbury lip colour in Bitch perfect.
I love this photograph of the beautiful Rebecca. When Rebecca came to see me we discussed all options regarding her Bridal make-up look. Rebecca doesn't wear much make-up as is a Dr (and a Mother now!) Rebecca is blessed with lovely skin so I didn't have to use too much foundation or concealer, but I did use a small amount of each where needed. I always prefer to use less than more, and I love to be able to still see the skin through the make-up. I then enhanced her natural beauty by defining her features and also highlighting them too. I think you will agree, she looks radiant and beautiful, without looking overly made-up.
I have been inundated recently with requests for make-up lessons. From Mothers who are at their wits ends from their daughters contouring habits, Husbands who have been constantly asked for a make-up lesson with me and also from ladies requiring help with applying their own make-up - we are never taught at school are we!! I believe this should be part of the curriculum! Make-up is such a powerful tool.
Christmas has been a very busy period for me and I have loved helping all of my lovely clients. I have also had the pleasure to work with some amazing, professionals recently and this past year. This has been my busiest year to date. 2016 is nearly booked up and 2017 is looking very busy too. I really am so grateful and love working with you all. Today's blustery weather calls for a bit of drama I think - its all about the winged eyeliner today! I used Embryolisse moisturiser first and then used Cover FX compact foundation to even out my skin tone, Bobbi Brown corrector and concealer serum under my eyes, and then Anastasia Beverley Hills dip brow pomade on my brows. To create the eyeliner look, use Urban decay eye primer first, then apply vanilla cream eyeshadow stick by Bobbi Brown all over the eye area, with a MAC 217 apply slate cream shadow (Bobbi Brown again), over the lid, up to the crease and below the eye, blending really well. With a Louise Young cosmetics brush, (LY31), dip your brush into a black gel liner, (I used Black ink by Bobbi Brown, but MAC do a good one too - Black track.) Start in the inner corner, applying right next to the roots of the lashes along the lash line, stop at the last lash and then use the full edge of the brush at the outer end of your lid to create a flick, (this should be in line with your lower lid.) Next create a triangle shape a little higher up and colour in with the liner. Then, go along the whole of the lash line again with the liner, creating a thicker line. Apply some Ardell Demi wispies, (false eyelashes) and you are good to go. Keep the rest of your make-up quite neutral. I used Bobbi Brown lip pencil in Beige and a little pink quartz shimmer brick.
With the gloomy weather surely there is light at the end of the tunnel? or in my case, my make-up bag?! Dark days call for a bright pop of colour so I opted for my trusty MAC lip pencil in High energy today and wrapped up in my Topshop leopard print coat. If you are going to be wearing a red lip, make sure you get rid of any redness first in your face, (especially around your mouth, nose and chin.) I must admit, I am more of a nude lippie girl, but I so needed a colour boost, and I felt really nice with a bright lip, plus it stayed on such a long time, (I prepped my lips first with a bit of vaseline, then rolled over a cotton bud to remove any bits that the lipstick may stick to.) Then applied a bit of carmex lip balm then applied the lip pencil all over the lips, then traced the pencil along the lip line, smiling, but it wasnt prestine.
I used minimal makeup for the rest of my face - I prepped with Emma Hardie moisturiser, then applied Bobbi Brown serum foundation and corrector, I then groomed my brows with an Anastasia Beverley Hills brow pencil, a bit of Louise Young eyeshadow in Chic and Max Factor 2000 calorie mascara. I then used Cover FX bronzer and then Bobbi Brown shimmer brick and that was it. A look really out of my comfort zone but perfect for an Autumn gloomy day! (coat from Topshop by the way.)

I am very lucky to be a columnist for The Lincoln Journal and The Lincolnshire Journal magazines, (I also write columns for The Wedding Journal too.)
My most recent column in The Wedding Journal is talking about why you should book a Pro make-up artist on your wedding day. Here's a snippet, "Weddings are a time of celebration and happiness and I am always honoured to be a part of someones' special day. When choosing a Make-up artist, you can't beat a first hand recommendation or review. Ask around and check out their social media accounts and portfolio too. See how long they have been in the industry for, (I sang in the bathroom last night, it doesn't make me a singer, if you know what I mean.) Getting your make-up applied professionally is a luxury, but with all things luxury there is a cost associated with it. Yes, you could do your make-up yourself or get your friend, but would it look the same? and do you need that stress on your wedding day? Price wise, a Pro make-up artist will charge what they are worth. You are not just paying for their expertise, experience or application, but upkeep of their kit, time, travel, cleaning and sanitising their kit, answering e-mails, etc, etc. Make-up artists work so hard, in and out of hours. Basically, you do get what you pay for. When you have chosen your make-up artist, book them...fast! A reputable make-up artist has a packed schedule and while that says great things about them and their work, it means you have to get a contract in place, (a professional will already have this in place as standard.) I don't recommend not having a trial before the wedding day, and actually, I don't take Brides on without this anyway, it is far too important. Not only should the makeup artist be amazing at make-up but you need someone who is going to be reliable, professional, keep you calm and also works well under pressure, you also need to have a good rapport with them. I have lost count of the number of times I have given reassuring hugs, passed a tissue and wiped tears, or poured a glass of champers to a nervous Bride...but its all part of the job. Make sure you wear waterproof products for obvious reasons! You don't want to have panda eyes or streaks ruining your look! Lastly, embrace the whole experience of having a professional apply your make-up for you. It is a most enjoyable experience and one which you will remember for the rest of your life."
My October Lincolnshire Journal "Tina Brocklebank Make-up artist knows good make-up..." talks about dark under eye circles, (something which I have myself.) Products I recommend are a good eye cream, Bobbi Brown corrector and concealer, Laura Mercier secret camouflage palette, Louise Young cosmetics, Barry M concealers, Amazing Cosmetics concealers, YSL Touche Eclat, a Beauty Blender, Chanel powder, (if required) and Lancome Effacernes concealer.
There is no denying, that make-up can be our best friend, if applied correctly and use the correct products. Make-up can enhance us and also play down the areas that we are not so comfortable with. Don't be afraid of experimenting a little and investing in yourself. Make-up is such a useful tool and a skill for life! (I have been working with lots of lovely ladies recently, on make-up lessons, all ages.) It always brings me such pleasure and is a real buzz when I make that person happy, just by applying a little bit of make-up, it can really boost someones' confidence and well being. Make-up, to me, is so much more than applying it, it has such a positive effect on a person. It really can make all the difference to your day. Heres a few examples of some make-up lessons and reviews too...
